XV - the artists (Part 1)

XV combines the talent of 15 different artists working in a variety of mediums into one space:

Work by Charlotte Adams, Laura Alice & Fiona Mitcham

Left to right: Charlotte Adams, Laura Alice, Fiona Mitcham.

Australian artist Laura Alice has a love of brown paper, tea, people and paste ups.  Based in Geelong, Laura creates both street work and inky paintings that are playful, whimsical and soulful. Using her art to connect with, and promote her community, Laura has been involved in projects such as Street Heart Project (a street art exhibition designed to bring creativity and love to Norlane) and working alongside teens in alternative education programmes.

Working for Weta Workshop before transferring to Weta Digital means you might have seen pieces of Charlotte Adams work without ever realising it. Charlotte, who produced two sculptural pieces for the exhibition, graduated from Ilam (Canterbury  University) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2009 before moving to Wellington. Between prosthetics, prop, costume painting and design, Charlotte produces her own work focusing mainly on sculpture and jewelery and more recently oil paintings.

While studying for a degree in Contemporary Applied Arts in the UK Fiona Mitcham discovered a love of maps and scientific instruments which she developed into a range of jewellery. After moving to New Zealand, Fiona continued to evolve her range with the collections 'As the crow flies' and 'Flock' following her initial map work. 'Flock' with its carefully hand cut bird outlines, is the perfect fit for XV.
