XV - the artists (Part 4)

In the fourth of a five part series about our current exhibition XV, we introduce three more of the artists: Santie Cronje, Beck White and John Sargeant.

Left to right: Santie Cronje, Beck White, John Sargeant.

Symbolist artist Santie Cronje paints full time from her studio in Cambridge. Originally from South Africa, Santie prefers to work with acrylics, using thin layers and washes to create different moods and light effects.
Santie has two small originals on canvas in the exhibition and has other work regularly in store.

Patea artist Beck White creates paintings, woodblock prints, and sculptures. She describes her art work as wryly humorous, imaginative, serendipitous, fuelled by a love of anatomy, nature, architecture, and language.
Beck has a BFA from Elam, where she majored in printmaking.

Between working at the local council and writing a column for the newspaper John Sargeant also manages to devote time to his art. John has been painting in watercolour from 2002 and oil paint from 2005. His style ranges from highly detailed to abstract.

Parallels with Nature
Parallels with Nature

Our latest exhibition is in many ways a study of duality: two artists studying two different strands of nature in simple tones of black and white; each artist carefully portrays the strength and fragility of life whether it is a drawing of an intricate teasel or the stippled portrayal of the mighty cape buffalo.
