Away From Home - March Exhibition

Untitled by Justine Hawksworth

Away From Home | Quirky Fox

One of Quirky Fox's most popular artist's returns alongside one of their newest artists in the exhibition 'Away From Home'.

Mixing iconic New Zealand imagery with quirky illustrative pieces, 'Away From Home' showcases the works of Justine Hawksworth and Bec Robertson. Both artists have produced works in their signature styles as well as a few more experimental pieces: peacocks in top hats sit beside lace clad churches in this eclectic exhibition.

One of the first artists to ever exhibit with Quirky Fox, Justine Hawksworth's signature style combines native birds with historic references, maps and nautical elements. Working mainly in acrylic and pencil, Justine uses a variety of surfaces as her canvas: wood, copper, old maps and vintage oars. Inspired by the kiwi bach, the beach and the sea, Justine taught 'Art & Design' before becoming a full-time artist working from her Mt Eden home. Justine, who will be at the opening, has created a new series of work especially for the exhibition based on architectural shapes as well as producing works in her usual style.

One of the most recent additions to Quirky Fox's range of artists, Bec Robertson is an award-winning artist who merges illustration and fine art with a touch of humour. Well known for her illustrative peacock series, Bec will showcase new peacock works as well as some of her 'watercolour collage' pieces - small intricate works which draw the viewer in. Bec returned to New Zealand after many years travelling abroad including time in the Australian rainforest where she lived without electricity and honed her style. Working in a variety of mediums (including ink, coloured pencil, watercolour and collage) Bec works from her home in Orakei between looking after her two children and pet schnauzer 'Ziggy’.

'Away From Home’ opens 5.15pm Wednesday 15 March and will run for 4 four weeks.
