Inspired by the anemone, each of these hand-blown pieces of glass varies in size, colour and sharpness: much like the many species of anemones found in nature.
The flat, highly polished face of the anemone showcases a bubble of coloured glass containing even smaller bubbles. The petal-like top of the piece tapers down to a single point.
Dimensions: anemones vary between 70-90mm diameter
Please note while care is taken while photographing these pieces each is individual and the shape may vary.
Over the last decade, Rebecca Heap's glass adventures have taken her just about as far away from her Auckland home as possible.
Initially studying glass at the Whanganui School of Glass under fellow Quirky Fox artist David Traub, Rebecca won a scholarship to study Glass Design for a semester at Kalmar University Sweden in 2006. Rebecca stayed in Sweden for five years and learnt from some of the best glassblowers in the world; she had the privilege of a traditional apprenticeship followed by postgraduate study at the Orrefors Glass School and later employment there.
Now having returned to her roots, Rebecca combines the influences from living in our young island nation with the skills and traditions she acquired during her time in Scandinavia; a place where they have been blowing glass since long before the Europeans first arrived in New Zealand.
Rebecca is one of just a handful of fulltime female glassblowers in New Zealand and her near-perfect symmetrical works have won her recognition here and abroad.
