Albrecht Durer | Original Art

Kate Steeds

This unusual work of art gives the viewer a private peek into the way the artist, Kate Steeds, produces her botanical and bird pieces. With a background in both the sciences and visual arts, Kate prefers to make art that incorporates both approaches to exploring and finding meaning in the world.
Her matrices represent the importance she places on research, which exists usually unnoticed ‘behind’ the displayed piece. Many artefacts of research like these combine usefulness, beauty, interest and meaning, thus overlapping both Art and Science.
Kate strongly believes that world environmental and economic problems would be solved better if somehow the intuition and playfulness of the arts could be combined with scientific practices of logic and systematic research.
These hand-made, customised tools are used for daily reference while Kate paints her more traditional pieces but are an interesting work of art in their own right.
Each of the squares is the sum of the two colours - where the same colours touch, (the diagonal) you get the colour plus itself which equals intense ‘pure’ (named) colour.
The work has been matted ready to frame.
