  • 'Mary Ellen' features a stippling (dot work) apple half and rosebud. Part of Rachelle's Sutherland's 'materfamilias' series the work represent youth and new beginnings. At all ages, we have our own wisdom and our own views, these like the apple and rose change over time.

Rachelle's 'materfamilias' series explores the matriarchs from our past and present. Throughout the 'materfamilias' series, the rose represents what is passed on from one generation to the next. It can be manipulated, it can evolve: history can't be changed, but what we carry into the future can be. This particular work was named after Rachelle's great grandmother.

'Mary Ellen' has been framed in a dark grey grained frame with a circular mat.
