  • "Soft, elegant and brutally hard, gliding in, then out of life."

Part of Rachelle's Sutherland's 'materfamilias' series, which explores the matriarchs from our past and present, 'Jessie Lothian' has been created by using dot after dot in a method called stippling. Ballet is one of the most elegant but in equal measure physically gruelling sports. The elegance of a ballerina en pointe has been beautifully recreated.

Throughout the 'materfamilias' series, the rose represents what is passed on from one generation to the next. It can be manipulated, it can evolve: history can't be changed, but what we carry into the future can be.

'Jessie Lothian' has been framed in a grained, black box frame with a black circular mat and non-reflective glass.
