Whanganui based artist David Traub began working with glass over forty years ago. Growing up in New York, David trained in ceramics and photography before falling in love with glass in 1973. David moved to Texas and with the help of the craft community there began what would become a life long passion. Over the next several years David took several short courses and worked beside various glass artists honing his skills and selling his work in art and craft fairs around the USA.
In 1984 he relocated to England, first as a student at the Royal College of Art and later as a Masters Degree student at Stourbridge College of Art & Technology. While finishing his Masters he began teaching and in 1995 was offered the post of program leader and senior lecturer for the glass programs at Wanganui Regional Community Polytechnic in New Zealand. In 2006, after more than 20 years of teaching, he again decided to focus on his art.
David specialises in the beautiful, delicate, yet bold and striking art of glass. His colourful platters are part of an ongoing series which continues to evolve in both shape and scale.
David is represented in public and private collections in America, Europe, South America, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
