With their natural, free-flowing edges these handblown glass 'pods' have both tactile and visual appeal. Each organic blob-like shape has a coloured centre, complete with little bubbles, and a silky smooth outer layer of clear glass.
Perfect on their own or in a group the pieces can be purely decorative or put to practical use as a paperweight.
Dimensions: between 75mm - 90mm across
Please note while care is taken while photographing these pieces each is individual and the shape may vary.
Over the last decade, Rebecca Heap's glass adventures have taken her just about as far away from her Auckland home as possible.
Initially studying glass at the Whanganui School of Glass under fellow Quirky Fox artist David Traub, Rebecca won a scholarship to study Glass Design for a semester at Kalmar University Sweden in 2006. Rebecca stayed in Sweden for five years and learnt from some of the best glassblowers in the world; she had the privilege of a traditional apprenticeship followed by postgraduate study at the Orrefors Glass School and later employment there.
Now having returned to her roots, Rebecca combines the influences from living in our young island nation with the skills and traditions she acquired during her time in Scandinavia; a place where they have been blowing glass since long before the Europeans first arrived in New Zealand.
Rebecca is one of just a handful of fulltime female glassblowers in New Zealand and her near-perfect symmetrical works have won her recognition here and abroad.
