Creating New Worlds: Slowly & Delibrately

Still from the stop animation film Nocturne by Anne Breymann

As luck would have it the first artist to take part in Quirky Fox’s attempt to “slow the scroll” and create deeper connections between artists, collectors, artwork and the gallery is familiar with working slowing to create something bigger.

Anne Breymann is perhaps best known for her short film ‘Nocturne’ a labour of love created through stop motion, carefully created backdrops, and hand-crafted puppets. Created in 2017, Anne directed, created and wrote the short film which went on to win multiple awards and show in several short film and animation festivals. This year she has released ‘Radix’, a film that has been described as the spiritual successor of ‘Nocturne’ - hauntingly beautifully, the film depicts two creatures who meet on a tree branch and shows their interaction with one another.

Spending time between her home on a small island in the North Sea and Berlin, Anne is inspired by her passion for nature, folktales and mythology, woven together. Anne works in a variety of mediums including clay, paper, textiles, wire, wood and found treasures:

“(I am..) an artist and visual storyteller, working in a variety of mediums such as sculpture, puppets, animation and staged photography”.

In addition to her personal art practice Anne creates puppets, illustrations and animations for film & tv, museums, theatre and record covers, and teaches workshops on puppet making.
