Resilience
Happy New Year, I hope you and your loved ones had a good Christmas and New Year.
The transition from 2024 to 2025 has been busy for Quirky Fox with our long awaited move finally taking place.
I’m happy to announce we will be starting the year in our new home at 162 High Street, Hawera. A family owned bookshop for over 60 years, the site has been fully transformed into a custom art space with a workshop, exhibition room and gallery space.
To celebrate our new home, ‘Resilience’ opens this Wednesday 15 January from 5.00pm.
‘Resilience’ is defined as the ability to withstand or recover from difficulties. As you may know, our move was initially scheduled for July 2023 and then rescheduled several times. The constant delays, re-arranging of exhibitions, lack of space, and the cost involved in postponed moves has been incredibly testing. I’m grateful to my customers and artists supporting me throughout this time. With the move now complete I can say maybe all those false starts were for a reason - we have found where we are meant to be and created something that meets our every requirement.
Many of our long term artists have created special works for our opening and several of these pieces are emotionally charged representing the artist’s own struggles: family bereavements, children leaving the family home, increasing demands of social media on artists and competition with AI and the effect of the economy on art sales.
Participating artists include:
