Julia Drew
Originally from Sweden, Julia Drew has called the wild and beautiful Highlands of Scotland home since 2004, where she lives with her two daughters.
A self-taught textile artist, Julia creates unique pieces freehand, guided by the motto 'I make what I want.'
Julia describes her process as organic, as each piece is made without sketches or patterns. Instead the creatures live in her head and making them is her way of getting them out into the real world.
Her textile animal sculptures reflect joy and creativity, often exploring contrasting characters. Recently, her environmental concerns have deepened into a commitment to animal rights:
”I believe in the urgent need for significant lifestyle changes. Through my art, I aim to provoke contemplation on our relationship with animals and the planet.“
