Like all of Anne's creatures she is created with a nostalgic aged look, imperfections and stains are intentional.

Anne Breymann

Anne Breymann is an artist and visual storyteller working in a variety of mediums including sculpture, puppets, animation and staged photography.

The simplest way to explain Anne’s work is to call her an artist, illustrator and filmmaker but the more accurate (yet whimsical) explanation is Anne transports those that are willing to believe in magic and hidden realms to previously unseen worlds inhabited by complex and beautiful creatures.

Her work is inspired by her passion for nature, folktales and mythology woven together with the absurdities of everyday life.

“With the help of clay, paper, textiles, wire, wood and found treasures I bring the creatures that live inside my head out into the world.”

Spending her time between a small island in the North Sea and Berlin, Anne creates puppets, illustrations and animations for film & tv, museums, theatre and record covers in addition to her personal art practice.

Her short film ‘Nocturne (Nachstück)(2017), a dark phantasmagorical short film animated with handcrafted puppets in stop motion, was nominated and awarded several awards and shown at various animation and short film festivals. ’Nocturne’ is available to view on YouTube.

Her most recent film ‘Radix’ has been shown at, and awarded at, multiple film festivals.

In 2024 Anne was a finalist in the Yasha Young Projects Sculpture Award of the Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize.
