Artist Statement: ‘The Violinist’ is Darina's first painting for her "Muse" series. In this busy world, and the current economic climate, she has developed an even more profound admiration for different art forms and her fellow artists. She is amazed by their creativity, endurance, passion, and bravery. Peaceful warriors devoting their lives to mastering their craft, dancing with their muse, pouring emotions into the world and uplifting and enriching people's souls from existing to living.

Darina chose ‘The Violinist’ as the first painting in the series as she has always been moved by the sound of the Violin, an instrument that requires incredible devotion to master. The instrument in this artwork was crafted by Antonio Stradivari in 17th—and 18th-century Italy and represents quality and a lasting legacy.

Strings of the violin flourish with intertwining New Zealand native orchids. Although orchids are often appreciated for their elegance, exotic allure, and grace, they represent love, strength, and wealth. Beyond their aesthetic beauty, these sun orchids are self-
pollinating, manifesting self-sufficiency and resilience.

Mushrooms and Koru depict rebirth, spiritual growth, regeneration, continuation, and wholeness. They brings enlightenment and peace to the blooming Violinists' future.

One of Darina's favourite birds is the fantail. Although looking tiny and appealingly fragile, these curious birds are very bold and adaptable, able to live in different habitats. They seem to want to communicate, and Darina often sees them as spiritual guardians.

Darina Denali

Darina Denali is an award-winning artist born in the Czech Republic. She graduated from the Prague Private School of Arts and Design where she studied oil painting for four years. Her final thesis was called "People of the Earth". Her curiosity about world, interest in different cultures and desire for adventure led her to live in Cyprus and Iceland before she and her husband permanently settled in New Zealand (2010).

Darina lives with her husband and their two young sons, surrounded by the ocean, native bush, and abundant birdlife. Being part of this moving and breathing ecosystem is a never-ending source of inspiration for her work.

Since Darina was a child, she dreamed about the ocean. She kept saying to her family that one day she will live by the sea, swim with different ocean creatures and become painter. Of course, they laughed, as they lived in a land-locked country in still communist regime, and her parents only knew of the sea from photographs.

Art for Darina is her way to learn, to understand where our place within natural world is, focusing on what connects us. Many of her creative ideas coming from feeling of belonging. They blur the lines between figurative form, fauna and flora, reality and dream, realism and abstraction.
