Margaret Emsley
Originally from South Africa, Margaret Emsley graduated from the University of Stellenbosch with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
Her work has been influenced by early botanical artists from the naturalists to the romantics:
‘Although resembling real life subjects, my pieces also offer a warped, dramatic version of reality. Flowers, stems, leaves and insects remind us of constant change, connection and movement’.
Her artworks have evolved into a hybrid that blends traditional painting and drawing with digital techniques. Digital techniques are used to deconstruct, manipulate, warp and reconstruct her reference images before the work is committed to canvas or paper.
